In South Korea, more than 90% of people use Android smart devices, and Google Play dominates the app store ecosystem.
According to a report released last month by the Korea Mobile Internet Association, Google Play Store accounted for 60.7% of the sales volume of mobile phone software in South Korea last year. In the sales of software, the game accounted for most of the proportion.
In contrast, Apple's App Store has a market share of 24.5%; the share of One Store jointly operated by Korea Telecom, SK Telecom and LG Uplus is only 11.6%.
Last year, several popular games in South Korea, including NCSoft's "Lineage M" and Netmarble's "Lineage 2 Revolution", were released via Google Play and the Apple App Store, but they did not land on the One Store.
In addition, even if some mobile games landed on the One Store, it was after the same game had landed on the Google and Apple App Stores for a while.
Google Korea declined to comment.
