Qualcomm said that the Snapdragon 8cx will be its first 7nm chip for PC platforms, and it represents the biggest performance leap in the history of Snapdragon chips, which will defeat the struggling Intel products. Qualcomm is committed to the Snapdragon 8cx with "Amazing Battery Life" and up to 2Gbps network connectivity.

This is the mobile chip manufacturer forWindowsThe first dedicated chip developed by the system, rather than a fine-tuned smartphone chip that was previously tried to squeeze into a laptop. Qualcomm said: "The Snapdragon 8cx processor is suitable for personal computers and can support its true multi-tasking and productivity."

However, please note that compared to Intel, NVIDIA and AMD notebook chips, Opteron 8cx performance is not the strongest, so it may be used in thin and light notebooks, not gaming notebooks. Qualcomm expects that the first computers equipped with the Opteron 8cx processor will be available in the second half of 2019.

In terms of graphics, Qualcomm claims that its new Adreno 680 Extreme GPU is used in its Opteron 8cx processor, which is twice as fast as the Opteron 850 processor and has an energy efficiency increase of 60%. It can also support two 4K HDR external displays at the same time, while previously only supported one display.

On the CPU side, Qualcomm claims that its Snapdragon 8cx performance is comparable to Intel's 15-watt U-series processor, which is used in most of today's thin and light Windows notebooks. However, Qualcomm chips consume only half the energy of Intel. Will Snapdragon 8cx and Intel's Y series processor (Apple's newMacBookCompared to the processor used by Air, Qualcomm believes its processor speed is 50% faster.

The reason why the Snapdragon 8cx has a performance advantage is probably because it is the first 7nm chip ever. In theory, it has higher performance or longer battery life.

The Opteron 8cx will support 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM with more bandwidth and a faster NVMe SSD.

However, the Snapdragon 8cx does not have built-in 5G, nor does it support Qualcomm's X50 5G modem. But for now, this is not a big problem. Qualcomm said it will launch a 5G solution later. At the same time, it is also equipped with Qualcomm's new X24 LTE modem, theoretically at a maximum speed of 2Gbps. Qualcomm's new phone with the Snapdragon 855 processor is also equipped with the same modem, and this notebook chip also supports LTE's 4x4 MIMO antenna.

Qualcomm said that the battery life of the Snapdragon 8cx will be comparable to that of the Snapdragon 850. The evaluation of the Galaxy Book 2 shows that the laptop supported by the Snapdragon 850 can be used easily for a whole day. With Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, it will also support USB-C fast charging and support for USB 3.1 Gen 2. In theory, you can double the data transfer speed on the USB data line to 10Gbps while supporting Amazon. Voice assistant Alexa andMicrosoftCortana.

The price of these devices may also exceed that of a laptop equipped with an Opteron 850 processor. Qualcomm said it will offer both processors and use different price points. Of course, having a super Windows laptop doesn't just mean great performance and features. It also requires application support, but it's not certain whether there will be an app available when the computer goes on the market. But Qualcomm stressed that it will support Windows 10 Enterprise, and both Chrome and Firefox will run locally, and more applications will be ported. Last month, Microsoft allowedDevelopmentRecompiling existing applications to the new 64-bit ARM version eliminates a major barrier to Windows development in Windows.

However, Qualcomm has an important piece of information not released, and that is the list of manufacturers that use the chip. Previously Lenovo's Matt Barida (Matt Bareda) stepped onto the Qualcomm stage, emphasizing past partnerships with Qualcomm, but did not promise to build a CellCellon 8cx device. Qualcomm, however, seems to have an idea, showing off a silver laptop at the show.
