Google Translate learns with hundreds of millions of translated examples available on the Internet, including a lot of gender bias.Google announced this change in a blog post, for example:
If you want to translate ‘o bir doktor’ from Turkish into English, you will see two translations in ‘she is a doctor’ and ‘he is a doctor’ in the translation box.
In fact, this is not the first time Google has tried to reduce gender bias in its own products. In November, the Smart Mail tool of the Gmail mail service did not give gender-sensitive word suggestions to reduce offense to some people.
In the future, Google also plans to bring this change to more voice and other applications (such as iOS and Android Apps). In addition, the company is working on how to address non-dual gender issues in translation.
