According to people familiar with the matter, Samsung Electronics will take back all Galaxy Fold prototypes sent to media reviewers to investigate screen ruptures. A day ago, Samsung decided to postpone the Galaxy Fold time to market. A small number of tech media reporters found the screen ruptured, raised, and flickering after using the Galaxy Fold for a day. Samsung has delayed the launch of Galaxy Fold while investigating this issue, but did not say how long it will postpone. Preliminary findings indicate that the problem may be related to the exposed portion of the hinge.
People familiar with the supply chain said that hinge manufacturer KH Vatec conducted an internal inspection of the hinges used by Galaxy Fold and found no defects. KH Vatec declined to comment.
At 4:25 GMT on Tuesday (12:25 Beijing time on Tuesday), Samsung shares fell 0.4%, but KH Vatec shares fell 3.1%.
“Samsung sent the prototype to the reviewer without providing a clear description of the Galaxy Fold. Now it is a disaster to fix the splash screen.” Mr. Kim Young, an analyst at SK Securities, Korea -woo said.
Samsung notified the customers who booked Galaxy Fold via email to postpone the listing. “Your booking ensures that you are in the queue to acquire this innovative technology. We will update you with more specific shipping information within two weeks. ” Samsung said.
In addition, Samsung will take back all Galaxy Folds destined for the US and Europe for a full inspection.
